Q: I suffer with psoriasis, I have it in various places but especially my scalp.

A: Dear J, Thanks for your e mail. When psoriasis is on the scalp it is quite difficult to treat. Let's hope we can help you.

We know of two herbs that may well help with psoriasis. A cream containing Kigelia Africana extract and the African potato tuber. There has been tremendous success using both herbs in conjunction for psoriasis.
We would normally recommend using the cream  at least twice daily on the body. On the scalp this may be difficult, so apply it in the evening, working it into the scalp as best you can, and leave overnight. It may be necessary to apply the cream to the scalp using a syringe and wear a showercap overnight.

A cream based on the fruit of the Kigelia tree works topically on the skin to heal and soothe and  the African potato tuber works by helping to balance and regulate the immune system (usually overactive in psoriasis sufferers and hence classed as an auto-immune condition).

The only thing I would say to you is when you use herbal remedies  , you should BE PREPARED TO BE PATIENT. Herbal products and take longer to kick in than orthodox medicine. It is important not to just try to get rid of the symptoms, but also try to get to the root of the problem and encourage your body to heal itself. So think about a minimum of 6 to 8 months treatment.

Make sure that any soaps/shampoos/bath and shower products that you are using are 'sodium laurel (or 'laureth') sulphate' free. Also use a non-bio washing powder.

Take a combination of omega fish oils and evening primrose oils. Vitamin D can also help with psoriasis so get a good brand and take the recommended daily dose.
