Hawthorn

hawthorn-berries.jpeg

Hawthorn is a thorny tree found in hedgerows and fields of Europe and the British Isles. It blooms with white, fragrant blossoms in May and produces brightly coloured berries. The medicinal use of Hawthorn goes back at least to the Middle Ages, and it played a large role in celebrations relating to the arrival of Spring.

For therapeutic use, the leaves, flowers and berries all play a part. Hawthorn has historically been used to support and calm the heart. It relaxes nervous tension brought on by stress, and so aids sleep.
